Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Bloop was packing for a hiking trip in the woods. He had a backpack on his living room table and the news channel was blasting away in the background. He was packing the last of his food when he heard the news reporter say, “A new creature has been spotted in the woods off Sunset Road. The creature looks like a small grey dog. It has been named the yourbuf. The yourbuf has been hiding for years and has never been spotted before. The yourbuf will attack lone humans and hates high pitch noise. Experts recommend no going into the woods alone until the yourbuf has been captured.” The news channel went to commercials. Bloop had been waiting months to be able to go hiking. He wasn’t going to let the yourbuf ruin it.

He picked up the phone and dialed Blob’s number. “Hello,” Blob answered. “Hey, it’s Bloop,” Bloop said. “Hey, what’s up?” Blob asked. “I was wondering if you wanted to go on a hike tomorrow afternoon.” Bloop said. “Sure,” Blob told him, “What do I need?” “Well I’ll worry about that. I have a large backpack. I should be able to fit everything in it. I need you to come because I saw on the news there was a creature called a yourbuf spotted in the woods around here. It won’t attack us together and it hates loud noise. If we bring whistles we should be okay,” Bloop said. “Well if you’re sure it’s safe… I’ll go with you,” Blob told him. “Alright, thanks bye,” Bloop said. “Bye,” Blob said.

Bloop finished packing his bag and put it on the couch. He grabbed his hat off the hook beside the door. He placed it beside the couch. Then, he went to his garage. He found two brand new whistles in the cupboard. He placed them with his hat so he wouldn’t forget them. Then, he went in the drawer of his desk and grabbed a compass and a map. Bloop knew the trail really but always took it along just to be safe. It placed it in the bottom of his bag thinking he probably wouldn’t need it.

Bloop woke up bright and early the next morning. He had a toast for breakfast, brushed his teeth, and took a shower. He threw his backpack on and put on his hat. He threw the whistles around his neck.

Bloop knocked on Blob’s door. Blob opened it. He was still wearing his pajamas. “Hey, I know I’m early,” Bloop said, “I was wondering if you wanted to go early. This way we have enough time to go to my favorite spot.” “Sure,” Blob said, “Just let me get ready. You can come in and watch TV.”

Bloop turned on the TV. He started watching an outdoor survival show. He heard the shower start running. He knew it could be awhile before he left. After a few minutes, the shower stopped. Then Bloop heard the sink and an electric tooth brush running. He didn’t think it would take much longer now.

Blob came out dressed in an old pair of jeans and a sweater. Bloop put on his bag and hat back on. He threw Blob a whistle. He caught it and put it around his neck. “Thanks. Don’t you think we might get lost?” Blob asked. “Nope, we won’t. I know these trails like the back of my hand. We’ll be okay,” Bloop said.

Blob put on a ball cap. They walked out the door. Across the street was a hiking trail that Blob had never seen before. They took off up the trail.

The trail was fairly smooth. It appeared to be the same all the way along. After a few hours, they arrived at the edge of a large cliff. Bloop took out some lunchmeat sandwiches and bottle water. They had a small picnic overlooking the forest below.

After they were finished, they began walking back the way they came. After awhile, they heard a noise coming out of a bush up ahead. Bloop thought it was the yourbuf. “Blob stop!” Bloop whispered. Blob stopped dead in his tracks. The put their whistles up to their mouths and blew as hard as they could, knowing if it was a yourbuf it would probably take off. A large squirrel came running across the trail. They were relieved. They kept walking all the way home.

Bloop and Blob arrived late that afternoon. They split up and went home. It had been a fun, yet tiring day.

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Blob realized how much Bloop must love the outdoors. He could tell by the look on his face while he was on the boat. He appeared to be right at home on the open water. This gave Blob an idea. Next weekend, he would be heading out on a camping trip. He thought Bloop might want to go with him.

Early Sunday afternoon, as Bloop was finishing his lunch in front of the TV, he heard his doorbell ring. He opened the door and found Blob waiting for him. “I’m going camping next weekend,” Blob said, “I was wondering if you wanted to go along.” “Sure, what do I need?” Bloop asked. “Well, you’ll need a sleeping bag, a tent, some food, clothes, bathroom stuff… Basically everything you need for the weekend away. You’ll also have to drive because I don’t have enough room in my little car,” Blob said. “Okay, I’ll get ready this week. I can’t wait to go!” Bloop said. He closed the door and Blob walked home.

On Friday night, Bloop started to pack. He put a tent, a sleeping bag, a folding chair, and a pillow in the back seat of his car. Then, he grabbed his suitcase from the storage room in the basement and took it upstairs. He packed four changes of clothes and a bathing suit. Next, he went to the bathroom and packed soap, towels, and a toothbrush and toothpaste. He closed up the suitcase and brought it into the garage. He placed it in the trunk of his car. After, he went to the laundry room. He grabbed a basket and took it to the kitchen. He packed food such as cereal, bread for sandwiches, some chips, and of course, marshmallows. He brought the basket to the garage and put it in the trunk. He looked around his garage and found a blue and white cooler. He went to the kitchen and filled it with ice, lunchmeat, and drinks. He placed it in the passenger seat for easy access. As he was shutting the car door, he heard his phone ring. “Hello?” he answered. “Hello, its Blob,” Blob said. “Where are we camping?” Bloop asked.  “At Sunset Campground,” he responded, “It’s just up the road from here. Meet me there tomorrow at 11:00 am. I got a large campsite so we can both put up our tents on it,” Blob said. “Alright then, bye,” Bloop said. “Bye,” Blob said. Bloop hung up. He set his alarm clock and went to bed early so he could be up on time.

The alarm rang at 9:00am. He took a shower, brushed his teeth his extra toothbrush and had a waffle with syrup for breakfast. Bloop got in the car at 10:00 am, knowing it was an hour to get all the way to Sunset Campground. He turned up the music and took off up the road.

Bloop arrived at 10 after 11. Blob honked the horn and Bloop parked beside him. They got out and went into the main building. There was no line up and they were able to check in right away. They went outside and placed the parking paper on the inside of the window of their cars. Blob seemed to know where he was going so Bloop followed him. They stopped at campsite 138 and parked on the right side. Bloop opened his trunk and took out his tent. He set it up in the back left corner of the campsite. Blob set his up next to Bloop’s. Bloop took out his sleeping bag and rolled it out inside his tent. Then he placed his pillow at the opening.

When lunch came around, Blob put a table cloth on the wood table and they carried it to the back middle of the campsite. Bloop prepared a ham sandwich and Blob ate a peanut butter and jam sandwich.

After their lunch was finished they carried their suitcases into their tents. They came back out and Blob said, “How about we go swimming this afternoon.” “Sure, I’ll go get changed,” Bloop said. They went into their tents, changed into their bathing suits and grabbed their towels. When Bloop got out, he found Blob sitting at the table inflating and a large yellow object with a small blue foot pump. “What is that?” Bloop asked. “It’s an inflatable boat,” Blob responded, “I thought we should try it out.”

When Blob finished inflating the boat they dumped theirs towels and Blob’s umbrella inside and they carried it up over their heads. They walked down a path in the trees towards they beach.

They arrived at a sandy beach with a crystal clear lake and a small island in the middle. The skies were blue and the water was calm. It was a perfect day to try out Blob’s boat.

They dumped the towels and the umbrella. Then they carried it out into the water. Bloop decided to ride first. Blob hung off the back and kicked as if he was a motor pushing the boat along. The water was shallow until about ¼ of the way to the island. Then, it dropped of to about Blob’s neck. “Okay, now I’ll push you around,” Bloop said. He helped Blob in the boat and jumped out. He pushed him around in circles and brought him back into shallow water. Then, just because it would be fun, he tipped the boat and Blob got dunked under water. He came up and they were both laughing. “Here let me push you back to shore,” Blob said. Bloop got back in. Instead of pushing him back to shore he pushed the boat around a little and tipped it. “Okay you got your revenge,” Bloop said. “Yea,” Blob responded. They pushed the boat back to shore.

They set up the umbrella and Bloop lied down on his towel. Blob went back into the water and swam around for awhile. When he came back to shore to lie down, Bloop went and swam for the rest of the afternoon.

After awhile they started to feel hungry. They dried off and dumped the towels and the umbrella in the boat. They carried it back to the campsite and set it down on the table. Blob carried the boat over to his car and set it down on top to dry. He opened the trunk and pulled out a small gas powered camping stove. “How does pasta with butter sound?” he asked Bloop. “Good,” he responded. After the night Blob cooked for him before, he couldn’t wait to taste his pasta.

Blob took out his stove over to the table and hooked it up to the gas. Then he went back to the trunk of his car and pulled out a small pot. He went to a water tap down the road and filled it with water.

Blob came back and emptied a pack of pasta into the pot. He put in on the stove and turned it on.
After awhile the pasta was ready. “Bloop, in the trunk of my car there are bowls and forks in a container. Could you grab them please?” Blob asked. Bloop went and picked up the container. He brought it to the table and took out two bowls and two forks. Blob poured pasta into each of their bowls. Then, he went into his cooler and pulled out a stick of butter. They each stuck a fork in the butter and mixed it with their pasta.

Bloop took a large bite. He never knew pasta with butter could taste so good. He only took him a few minutes to finish the bowl. Then he found himself eating another one even though he wasn’t hungry anymore.

Blob packed the dirty dishes and stove into his trunk. He took the boat off his roof and said, “Bloop I’m going to the main building to get some firewood and newspaper.” “Alright,” Bloop said.

Blob came back a few minutes later with two packs of wood and a bundle of newspaper. He started by cutting some wood into smaller pieces with his axe. Then, he made a tipi style fire with the newspaper in the center and the small pieces of wood around it. He lit the fire.

Blob slowly started building up the fire with bigger and bigger pieces of wood. At around nine that night, there was enough coals to start cooking marshmallows. Bloop took them out of his cooler. Blob had marshmallow sticks in his car. They had marshmallow after marshmallow. At the end of the night, Blob went to the tap and got a bucket of water. He poured it on the fire and it all went out.

Bloop went in his tent and zipped it up. He crawled into his sleeping bag and went to sleep.

“Bloop, wake up you’re going to be late!” Blob shouted. Bloop woke up. It was already ten thirty and they had to be off the site by twelve. Bloop got dressed inside his tent. Then he rolled up his sleeping bag, zipped up his suitcase unzipped the door. Blob’s tent was already half down. He put the sleeping bag and pillow in his back seat. He put the suitcase in his trunk.

Bloop tore down his tent and put it in the bag. He threw it in his back seat. “Well, I guess that’s it,” Bloop said, “See you later.” “Bye,” Blob said. They got in their vehicles and drove back home.

An hour later, Bloop pulled up in his driveway. He unpacked his car and went inside to have lunch.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Before Bloop knew it, it was Saturday morning and Blob was on his doorstep knocking. “I’ll gladly go for a boat ride with you. I think it will be a lot of fun,” Blob told him. “I can’t wait! How about we go out this afternoon at 3:00?” Bloop asked him. “Sure,” Blob responded, “I’ll just meet you here then.” “Alright,” Bloop said.

Bloop sat down in his living room, and watched TV. At around noon, he had a nice lunch of French fries and chicken strips.

3:00pm came fast. Bloop was still watching TV, when he heard a loud knock on his door. He looked out his window and saw Blob standing outside his door waiting for him to answer. He stood up and walked to the door. He unlocked it and opened it. “Hello,” he said. “Hello Bloop,” Blob said. He grabbed his keys and joined Blob outside. “Follow me,” he said. He walked behind the garage and up to the large old metal shed. The shed reeked of old gardening equipment. He looked around a little and dug up two orange and yellow life jackets. “Keep that on the whole time you’re in or near the water,” he said. “Okay,” Blob responded. They walked down onto the sandy beach towards the water. “It’s pretty cold Blob. Make sure you leave your shoes on the beach. Nothing should happen to them,” Bloop told him. They slipped off their shoes and placed them on a large rock so they would not get carried away by the water.

Blob followed Bloop into the water. Bloop jumped into the boat and helped Blob get in. Bloop started the motor and sat down behind the wheel. He slowly drove the boat away from the shallow water near the shore. After that, the water was fairly deep. “Do you like to go fast?” Bloop asked. “Yes,” Blob responded. “Alright,” Bloop said “I’ll show you fast.” Bloop turned the throttle to full. The motor roared and they both sank back into their seats. He looked back and Blob had a smile from ear to ear. “Do you like?” Bloop asked. “That was amazing!” Blob shouted.

“Do you want to drive? There are not a lot of rocks here and the lake is really deep this year. You should be alright.” Bloop asked. “Really, I can? Sure!” Blob replied. They switched their positions. Blob was being cautious and only went half the speed he could of. Bloop reached over him and pushed the throttle to full. Blob turned around and smiled. He raced around the lake for a few minutes. “Okay,” Bloop said, “Time to bring it in.” He took control of the boat and slowly steered towards the shore.

When the boat stopped, Bloop turned of the motor and they jumped into the water. It was numbingly cold. They walked towards the shore. When they got on the beach, Bloop asked, “Would you like a towel? The water was really cold.” “Sure,” Blob replied.

Bloop went inside and returned with two bright colored beach towels. “Thanks,” Blob said as he was drying off. “That was really fun,” he said. He put on his shoes and walked home.

The smile on Blob’s face left a smile on Bloop’s face. He was happy that he did a good thing and at the same time had a chance to go for a spin in the boat for the first time of the season.

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

The next day at 6:00pm, Bloop went over to Blob’s house and knocked on the door. Blob shouted “Come in,” from behind the door. Bloop walked in. “Great to see you! You can just leave your jacket in the spare room down the hall to the left,” Blob told him. Bloop walked down the hall and opened the first door on the left. Inside was a blue bed, wood dresser and an old TV. He took off his jacket and placed it on the bed. He went across the hall into the kitchen.
Blob was preparing the last of the food and placing it on the table. “I prepared what I hope will be the best meal you’ve ever tasted!” Blob told him. Bloop went into the dining room. On the table were bread, mashed potatoes, gravy, and turkey. “Wow. You really went above and beyond. I wasn’t expecting you to go through all this trouble. All I did was carry a few boxes inside and the couch and you did all this,” Bloop said. “Well, I do like to be a good neighbor. This seemed like something everyone would like!” Blob told him.

Bloop sat down at the table. “Go ahead, eat,” Blob said. Bloop began with a buttered slice of bread. It tasted amazing! Like it was homemade! Blob had promised him the best meal of his life and so far it was living up to it! Bloop then had some mashed potatoes. They too tasted great! Knowing Blob, he had probably grown the potatoes himself. “This is great! Did you grow these potatoes yourself?” Bloop asked. “I sure did! I love gardening! At my old house I had a garden in my backyard,” Blob responded. Bloop continued to eat. Next he took a piece of turkey. It was soft and juicy. He poured on some gravy and took a bite. Like all the other food, the gravy was great! “Did you make the gravy?” he asked. “What do you think?” Blob asked him. “It tastes great! You must have,” Blob responded. “Well yes I did! Thank you,” Blob said. Bloop dug in. It was a meal that was definitely fit for a king.

“Well, I better go. It’s getting late,” Bloop said. “Well, it was great seeing you! I hope to do this again sometime,” Blob said. Bloop walked out and went home. He felt like he was about to explode because he ate too much.

When he got home, it hit him that he should do Blob a favor. Besides, he hadn’t really done much for him. He moved a few boxes and helped carry a couch inside. Then, Blob prepared a huge meal. None of the pieces really fit together. He went into the backroom of his house and looked out the window. He saw his boat and the lake and remembered how much fun he had out there. Blob didn’t have a boat and Bloop thought he might really like to go for a ride. The water was still very cold but the ice was all melted.

Bloop went outside and picked up a gas can. He opened his garage and put the gas can in the truck of his shiny red sports car. He closed the truck, got behind the wheel, and drove down Sunset Road towards a gas station.

Bloop pulled into the gas station and filled the gas can to the top. He went inside and paid for his gas. He put the can back in the trunk of the car and drove back down Sunset Road towards his house.

He drove into his garage and parked the car. He popped the trunk and pulled out the gas can. Bloop closed the garage door and walked down the beach towards the water. He took off his boots, rolled up his pants and walked into the freezing cold water with the gas can in his hand. He hopped into the boat and filled the tank with gas. His legs were numb. He jumped back into the water and went onto the beach. He put his boots back on and walked up to the garage. He placed the can outside.

Bloop went inside and sat at his desk. He grabbed a piece of lined paper and began writing a letter. In the letter, he asked Blob if he wanted to go for a boat ride on the weekend. He said how he thought he did too much and would like to return the favor. He also wrote how it wouldn’t be any trouble because the boat already had gas in it. He folded the letter and slipped it inside an envelope. He sealed it and put it down.

The next day, when Blob was gone out, Bloop went over and placed the envelope in Blob’s mailbox. Then, he turned around and walked home hoping later he would get a knock on his door and Blob would be there saying he would go for a boat ride with him.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

A small red car came driving down Sunset Road. The car pulled up at a house that had been abandoned for five years after the owners mysteriously died. Bloop, a small red square shaped creature, was shocked to see a vehicle pulling into the driveway. He thought it must be a mistake or they were just trying to turn around. Bloop went inside not knowing what was going on and sat in a chair in front of a large window in his living room. After a few minutes of waiting, he noticed the car was not leaving. Then, a large moving truck pulled into the driveway next door. Bloop was very excited! After years of waiting, he was probably going to have a new neighbor. He waited quietly inside not to disturb hi. Then, he realized how nice it would be for a new neighbor to help you move in. He wanted to make a good first impression.
It was the beginning of spring. The ground was still covered in snow and water. Bloop put on a pair of rain boots and a light jacket. He walked down his stone pathway onto the gravel road and up the next driveway. “Would you like any help?” he shouted. “Sure,” the new neighbor replied. He was a little larger than Bloop and was blue in color. Bloop walked up to him. “Hello, my name is Bloop. I guess I will be your new neighbor,” he said. “My name is Blob,” his new neighbor responded. “Nice to meet you Bloop. If you want to help, you can just bring the boxes on the right side of the truck into the living room.” “Alright, I’d be happy to help!” Bloop told him.

Bloop climbed up into the back of the moving truck. Near the middle on the right side were two small brown boxes. He grabbed them and jumped down. He opened the large front door to the house, went down the hallway and up the stairs into the living room. He placed the boxes on the light hardwood floors.

“Bloop, I’m ready for you to help me carry in the couch,” Blob yelled from outside. “Sure,” Bloop said. He went outside and into the truck. In the back, was a brown leather couch and Blob was on the right side. Bloop stood on the opposite side of the couch and grabbed the bottom. “1 2 3,” Blob said. They both lifted the couch and moved towards the exit. Bloop set the couch down on the top edge of the truck and jumped down as Blob was holding it up. Bloop lifted it and they set it down on the ground. He grabbed a box of books and placed it in front of the door so it would stay open. He went back and on the count of three, they both lifted the couch. They carried it inside and placed it against the wall across from the large window in the front of the living room.
“Okay, I guess that’s all you can really help with. Everything else must be placed in different rooms. Thanks for your help! I don’t know how I would’ve ever got that couch in,” Blob said. “You’re welcome,” Bloop told him. He went home feeling happy about helping his new neighbor.

The next day, as Bloop was going out for groceries, he noticed a fruit basket with a card in the middle on his front doorstep. He was immediately distracted from getting groceries. He picked up the basket and went upstairs to his desk. Inside the basket were bright fruits such as oranges, bananas and grapes.

He opened the envelope. Inside was a nice white card. On the front, in a curly font, read “Thank You”. Bloop opened the card. Inside was a message that read “Thank you for your help moving me in. I really appreciate the time you spent trying to be a nice neighbor. I would like to return the favor by having you over for dinner tomorrow at 6:00pm. I hope you can make it!”

Bloop was excited! He had a dinner to look forward to tomorrow. He went outside and knocked on his neighbor’s door. Blob answered. “Hello,” he said. “Hello Blob. I would love to have dinner tomorrow,” Bloop said. “I’d love that. See you then! Bye,” Blob responded. “Bye,” Bloop said.

Bloop went home happy to know his neighbor wanted to spend time with him. After waiting what had to be forever, Bloop would no longer be a lonely little square living in the middle of nowhere with no one around.
